Mineral Processing Plant Tailings Sludge Dewatering Solution

In response to the challenging requirements of tailings sludge management at large mineral processing facilities, we provided a comprehensive tailings sludge dewatering solution centered on the deployment of the Meibang Plate and Frame Filter Press. The solution is designed to improve dewatering efficiency, reduce operational costs, and ensure compliant discharge of both solids and wastewater.

Project Challenges

Tailings sludge generated in mineral processing plants typically exhibits:

  • High water content and poor natural consolidation
  • Large continuous discharge volume
  • Complex composition with heavy metals, acids, alkalis, suspended solids, and processing reagents

These characteristics make conventional treatment methods inefficient and costly. Untreated discharge can lead to serious environmental pollution and regulatory non-compliance, affecting soil, surface water, and groundwater quality.

Our Solution

To address these challenges, our technical team developed an integrated dewatering strategy that includes:

1. Material Characterization & Process Design
We conducted a detailed analysis of tailings properties, including solids concentration, particle distribution, chemical composition, and rheology. Based on this data, we designed a tailored dewatering process combining mechanical pressure filtration and chemical conditioning.

2. Deployment of Meibang Plate and Frame Filter Press
The Meibang Plate and Frame Filter Press was selected as the core equipment due to its high dewatering efficiency, stable operation, and adaptability to varying material characteristics. Key features of the system include:

  • Modular plate and frame configuration for flexible capacity scaling
  • Food-grade or corrosion-resistant materials for all slurry contact components
  • Automated pressure control and cake discharge for reduced labor input

3. Slurry Conditioning
To improve filtration performance, a polymer conditioning system was implemented. Optimized dosing of flocculants enhanced particle aggregation, facilitating rapid water release and improving cake dryness.

4. Filtrate Management
Water separated from the sludge was collected, clarified, and treated to meet discharge standards or reused within the facility, minimizing freshwater consumption and wastewater output.

5. System Integration & On-Site Support
We provided full integration support, including mechanical installation, electrical control setup, and automation commissioning. On-site technical guidance ensured smooth start-up and knowledge transfer to the customer’s operation team.
