Dongguan, located in the Pearl River Delta of Guangdong Province, is a city with a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is also one of China’s most highly industrialized cities and is widely known as the “World Factory.”
Alongside rapid economic development, Dongguan has placed increasing emphasis on ecological protection and environmental management in recent years. Some heavily polluting enterprises have been shut down, and environmental regulations and standards have become increasingly stringent.
Due to the increasing discharge of industrial wastewater and domestic sewage, water quality in some rivers in Dongguan has deteriorated in recent years. Large amounts of pollutants have been discharged into rivers, leading to sediment accumulation, channel blockage, poor water flow, and limited capacity of water environmental infrastructure. These issues have affected river navigation, flood control, and drainage, and have had a negative impact on the city’s overall image.
To address these challenges, Dongguan launched a series of river dredged sludge dewatering projects. In the Songshan Lake river dredging project in Dongguan, in order to efficiently complete this major municipal engineering project, the contractor visited and inspected multiple filter press manufacturers. After comprehensive on-site evaluations and technical comparisons, Meibang plate and frame filter presses were ultimately selected for river sludge treatment.
Meibang’s plate and frame river sludge dewatering equipment is specifically designed for river dredged sludge dewatering. It can operate without chemical additives or with only a small amount of flocculants, significantly reducing chemical consumption and operating costs. The equipment is capable of rapidly dewatering river sludge with high clay content and poor permeability.
After treatment, the sludge cake has low moisture content and can be reused as organic fertilizer for landscaping or as raw material for brick manufacturing, enabling resource recycling. The discharged clarified water meets environmental standards and can be recycled for reuse or safely discharged back into the river.
After the completion of this project, river water quality was significantly improved, while the river depth and its water storage, flood control, and drainage capacity were greatly enhanced. The restored river has become a pleasant recreational space for Dongguan citizens and a vibrant urban landscape, adding a new highlight to the city.
